The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) forecasted severe to substantial precipitation in the majority of the country over the next 48 hours.
A day before, Karachi had torrential rainfall and thunderstorms, followed by a cold wave that made the weather unpleasant.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) said in a statement: “Most parts of the nation are likely to experience moderate to substantial rainfall. scattered storms are anticipated with heavy snowfall on hilly regions within the next 48 hours.”
The federal authority announced that the western disturbance has moved away from Balochistan and Sindh provinces.
“Over the next 12 to 24 hours, northern parts of the country including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper and central Punjab will experience moderate to heavy rainfall, snow, Isolated Thunderstorms and hailstorms as well.”
It further said that the next spell of rain is expected from March 5 to 7, affecting Balochistan along with KP, Kashmir, GB, and upper regions of Punjab.
“This system will bring possibilities of precipitation to northwestern Sindh.”
The NDMA issued a new alert to authorities, urging them to remain attentive and take all required precautions.
It also instructed the relevant departments to ensure the pre-positioning of the required equipment and the accessibility of fuel at designated areas of vulnerability for backup generators for de-watering pumps if cities experience flooding.

Officials had also declared a “rain emergency” in Karachi, citing the province’s erratic weather.
A day before, Karachi had torrential rainfall and thunderstorms, followed by a cold wave that made the weather unpleasant.
K-Electric, the port city’s sole power distributor, said that the breaking of a high-tension transmission line near Gulshan-e-Hadeed had no influence on Karachi’s electricity supply.
According to a KE representative, the transmission line in question is not linked to any power source and is still being commissioned and tested.
The representative went on to say that high winds in the area earlier this week damaged the transmission equipment, causing one tower to collapse.
Following the event, KE teams were quickly sent to conduct a comprehensive investigation and create necessary corrective measures, according to the electrical supply company.
The statement added: “There have been no claims of any loss of life or property harm as a result of these incidents.”
Tragic events hit as heavy rains take lives and displaced residents
sadly, the torrential rains killed three individuals in Kamalia, when a damaged house fell. Another tragedy in Kharan claimed three lives, including two children.
Similarly, Gwadar was witnessing another round of heavy rain, coupled with gusts and thunder.
The water supply and rescue facilities have been seriously damaged, forcing inhabitants to relocate to safer locations.
Three people had been buried alive under debris after a mudslide hit their home in KP’s Lower Dir neighborhood. Rescue teams transported the deceased and injured to the hospital.
Ten persons were killed in episodes of roof collapse and mudslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is still experiencing sporadic rain and snowfall.
Safety precautions are urged as the NDMA
The NDMA issued a new alert to authorities, urging them to remain attentive and take all required precautions.
It also instructed the relevant departments to ensure the pre-positioning of the required machinery and the availability of fuel at designated vulnerable places for generator backups for de-watering pumps in the event of urban flooding.
Furthermore, the local administration has recommended that improved solid waste disposal services be implemented in order to prevent main sewage and drainage systems from becoming clogged during excessive rain.
In its recommendation, the NDMA recommended passengers to use caution when traveling across steep terrain.
It is important to note that severe rain and snowfall are interrupting daily life and triggering catastrophic incidents in many parts of the country.
The Municipal Administration has recommended that improved handling of solid waste services be implemented in order to prevent main sewage and drainage systems from becoming clogged during torrential rains.
Furthermore, the NDMA has directed the appropriate departments to collaborate with the National Highway Authority (NHA), Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and Construction and Works Department (C&W) to restore roadways and set required machinery in strategic locations to respond to land sliding immediately.
