Islamabad police tried to apprehend Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed after the latter returned from the “Gaza Solidarity March” on Sunday.

Ahmed posted on X (previously Twitter): “Islamabad police tried to arrest me. The kids as well as my family were in the car. The police have pursued my vehicle. Attempts were made to steal cell phones from my son and driver.”

“I had been requested to display my ID card. When I presented my identity card, the police officers threatened me,” Ahmed explained.

Furthermore, the cops had a heated exchange with Ahmed.

Separately, on Sunday, JI senior leader Liaqat Baloch urged political stability. Baloch expressed his ideas, saying: “Political stability can only be reached through transparent elections. “All tactics were used to keep the JI away from the masses.”

Baloch emphasized the significance of the voters, stating, “The voters’ choice should be respected.” 

Speaking in the upper house of Parliament on Friday, the member claimed that the Supreme Court had clarified that anyone who was offended by its ruling might file a review case.

“I am going to take this option because the court’s decision contains significant errors. There is a lot of animosity at the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan ruled that publishing and distributing incorrect translations was not a crime under the Punjab Holy Quran (Printing and Recording) Act 2011.

The JI senator Mushtaq cited:

According to Section 9(1) of the Punjab Holy Quran (Printing And Recording) Act 2011, a printer, publisher, or proprietor of a recording company who violates any provision of the Act or its rules, prepares a record, or certifies a non-compliant specimen copy or record of the Holy Quran may face imprisonment. 

“This statute existed prior to its amendment. “After this section was amended, the term of prison and the sum of fine were simply increased,” he explained.

“The court has to fix this mistake,” he added, adding that the Supreme Court’s verdict had other major errors. 

“Khatm-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood) is our redline—we cannot leave any space for anyone to interfere on this issue on any pretext,” he went on to say.

Aside from that, senators from various political parties aired their concerns in the Senate on the granting of home employment licenses by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Taj Haider and Rubina Khalid of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Humayun Mohmand and Mehr Taj Roghani of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Shafiq Tareen of the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) all expressed their views on the issue. 

Speaking over the Senate session, Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi requested a report from PMDC on the issuing of home job licenses. The House was adjourned until Monday.

Senator Mushtaq’s altercation with Islamabad police heightens political tensions. JI’s demand for stability is heard among controversies. In the meantime, the Senate investigates PMDC’s licensing, raising larger concerns. The political scene remains turbulent, with requests for accountability and legal compliance.
