Lawsuit Accuses A Chicago doctor accused of widespread sexual assault
Headline: Lawsuit Accuses Chicago Doctor of Abusing Over Three Hundred Women, Hospitals Charged of Ignorance.
A lawsuit against two major Chicago hospitals accuses an OB-GYN of sexually abusing over 300 women, the majority of whom are Latina or Spanish speakers, and claims that the institutions ignored the victims’ concerns.
The charge is the most recent episode in the court case against Fabio Ortega, 77, who pled guilty in 2021 to sexually abusing two patients.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of one woman, alleges that employees at NorthShore Medical Group and Swedish Covenant Hospital, both now owned by Endeavor Health, hidden grievances about the former doctor’s actions for years before he was convicted and “intentionally allowed him to sexually abuse” dozens more patients.
“Women reported. “They reported repeatedly,” said attorney Symone Shinton during a news conference announcing the lawsuit on Tuesday. “They were taught to analyze their own experiences as women. They were informed that the mistreatment they spoke about was medically required and usual.”
Endeavor Health, which operates both facilities, has claimed that it has “completely zero tolerance for abuse of any type” and will investigate any complaints.
However, the complaint highlights structural faults in the healthcare system, as well as the need for increased responsibility to safeguard patients in danger from abuse and neglect.
