Headline: Alia Hamza Malik is Arrested Again.
Police have detained Aliya Hamza, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) representative, and Sanam Javed, a social media activist, in connection with a Mianwali case.
Aliya Hamza Malik, a Pakistani politician, served as an elected official of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 to January 17, 2023.
Her resignation was approved by the speaker of the National Assembly in January 2023, eliminating the possibility of the PTI returning to the National Assembly.
Police Arrest PTI Leader Aliya Hamza Malik
They only filed additional cases against Aliya Hamza after she was given bail in her earlier FIRs.
Police apprehend PTI leader Aliya Hamza and social media activist Sanam Javed in the Mianwali case.
According to sources, the jail administration would take the accused before an anti-terrorism court. Mianwali police intend to seek a temporary remand for Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed.
It’s worth noting that the anti-terrorism court recently accepted Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed’s bail application in the Shadman attack case, which is related to the May 9 riots.
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) members Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed in the Shadman police station attack case. ATC Judge Arshad Javed heard the accused’s bail motion in the Shadman Police Station attack case.
During the hearing, the prosecution stated that the women were involved in the May 9 incidents.
Bail hearing for Aliya Hamza Malik, former parliamentarian
A Pakistani court is poised to hear Aliya Hamza Malik’s bail petition, a former MP who was imprisoned in jail for nearly ten months for opposing the detention of her Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Nationwide public protests erupted in Pakistan when Khan was briefly jailed on corruption charges on May 9, 2018, just days after losing a confidence vote in parliament.
Khan’s supporters, outraged at his dismissal, which they claimed was arranged by his political opponents and the powerful military, stormed government buildings and military facilities on May 9 to protest his imprisonment.
The deadly demonstrations killed at least 12 people and resulted in the arrest of hundreds of PTI officials and sympathizers, some of whom are still in detention.
Aliya Hamza Malik, 46, was charged with setting fire to a police station in Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city, during the protest. She was also charged with attacking a military commander’s home, Jinnah House, in the same city.
Aliya Hamza Malik refuted both allegations. In January, she was granted bail in the Jinnah House case.
The fifth bail hearing in the case involving the police station attack is planned for Wednesday in the Lahore High Court.
One time, the prosecutor was on vacation. In the previous three hearings, the investigator stated that he did not bring the evidentiary record. “When the judge was on leave,” her spouse Hamza told Al Jazeera.
“We wish this time she will be successfully released and back home to be together with her family.”
Conclusion
The incarceration and ensuing legal actions against Aliya Hamza Malik demonstrate the complications of political protest in Pakistan. Despite ongoing legal challenges, her story highlights broader concerns about civil liberties and justice in the country’s political landscape.
