The government recently decided to reshuffle the leadership of Islamabad’s law enforcement sector. Akbar Nasir Khan IG Islamabad Police, has been dismissed from his duties effective immediately.

Nasir Rizvi, a seasoned Grade 20 officer within the police force, will take on this responsibility, bringing a wealth of experience and skills to ensure the capital’s safety and security. 

Furthermore, to streamline administrative processes and improve cooperation, Captain® Khurram Aga, a prominent Grade 22 officer in the DMG group, has been chosen as the new Interior Secretary.

In a recent change, the federal government replaced Akbar Nasir Khan IG Islamabad with Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a BS-20 officer based in Punjab.

According to the Establishment Division’s notifications, Dr Akbar Nasir Khan was assigned to the Division “with immediate impact and until further orders.”

Khan has been working in Islamabad since May 2022. He was appointed as Akbar Nasir Khan IG Islamabad shortly after the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) took control. 

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had petitioned the Establishment Division several times to replace Dr Akbar Nasir Khan before the February 8 election, but to no effect.

Captain Khurram Agha Appointed Interior Secretary

Retired Capt Khurram Agha was appointed interior secretary by the Establishment Division, while Additional Interior Secretary Khushal Khan was assigned to the Power Division.

Additionally, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha was in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat when he was appointed Commerce Secretary on March 3. This is his second post in less than three weeks. 

According to another announcement, Khushal Khan, a BS-21 officer with the Pakistan Administrative Service, has been transferred from the Interior Ministry to the Power Division.

The notification that was issued by the Establishment Division said: “Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a BS-20 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, currently assisting under the Government of Punjab, has been promoted as Inspector General, Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT), under the Interior Division, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate consequences and until further orders.” 

Captain Aga is well-positioned to make major contributions to Islamabad’s successful governance, given his wide expertise and administrative aptitude. 

Reinforcing Governance in Peshawar:

Meanwhile, in Peshawar, a strategic administrative appointment was made. Riaz Mehsud, a seasoned officer who previously served admirably as Peshawar’s Commissioner, has been reinstalled in this critical role.

His return pledges to strengthen governance institutions and support regional development projects, building on his previous success.

These selections highlight the government’s concerted endeavor to optimize administrative duties and improve public service delivery in critical regions, ensuring long-term growth and success for all citizens.
