The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the release of former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry.

IHC’s Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri have accepted the bail.

Fawad Chaudhry’s appeal in the Jhelum property matter was heard by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Qaiser Imam, Fawad Chaudhry’s solicitor, appeared in court for the case hearing.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi has charged the former federal information minister, his cousin and frontman, and others with allegedly accepting millions of rupees in bribes and misusing authority to grant a no-objection certificate (NOC) and acquire public land for the establishment of a private housing society in the Dina area of GT Road.

Fawad Chaudhry, once regarded as a hawk in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced his resignation from the former ruling party on May 24, just weeks after authorities launched a heavy-handed crackdown against mostly PTI leaders, workers, and sympathizers who allegedly committed acts of vandalism following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan on May 9.

The former federal minister, who announced his intention to leave politics during a May 24 news conference, was soon seen attending meetings of disgruntled PTI leaders who later announced the formation of a new party, the IPP.
