Antalya Turkey Cable Car Accident: “Tragedy Occurs: Antalya Turkey Cable Car Accident Leaves One Dead, Ten Injured, and Hundreds Stranded.”

In the Antalya turkey cable car disaster, one person died, seven were injured, and almost 200 were trapped in midair.

Helicopters equipped with night vision were dispatched to rescue the 184 individuals who remained trapped in the cable car system’s cabins, Antalya Mayor Muhittin Bocek said in a statement late Friday.

The last of 174 people stranded in cable cars above a Turkish mountain has been freed, over 23 hours after one of the pods collided with a pole and burst apart, killing one and wounding seven others.

The catastrophe, which sent people tumbling to the earth, occurred about 6 p.m. local time on Friday on the Tunektepe cable car, just outside Antalya, a major tourist destination in the country’s south.

Footage captured in the aftermath of the incident showed the torn open wreckage of the car, tangled debris on the stony ground, and medics caring to the injured.

It imprisoned scores of guests in 24 cabins dangling high in the air. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that the stranded passengers had been evacuated on Saturday afternoon.

The enormous rescue effort, which included helicopters and over 500 emergency workers, lasted into the night. 

128 people in 16 cars had been rescued

Earlier, Okay Memis, director of the Turkish search and rescue agency AFAD, stated that 128 people were recovered “under difficult conditions” in 16 cars.

He went on to say, “The rescue of 43 others in eight remaining pods is ongoing.”

Mr Memis stated that rescuers planned to conclude rescue efforts before dark.

The governor’s office identified Memis Gumus, a Turkish national, as the individual who perished in the event.

The injured, including two youngsters, were evacuated to a hospital.

The number of individuals injured in the incident was initially reported as seven, but Health Minister Dr Fahrettin Koca later changed it to ten. Mr. Koca said on X that a cable car cabin fell in Antalya’s Konyaaltı area, resulting in one fatality and ten injuries. 

“May God have mercy on our citizen who lost his life in the accident, I wish a speedy recovery to our injured, and I wish a speedy recovery to the rescued and waiting-to-be-rescued victims.”

The incident occurred on the penultimate day of Turkey’s three-day Eid al Fitr public holiday, which commemorates the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and draws families to coastal resorts.
