Rana Sanaullah Takes an Important Political Role

Rana Sanaullah Appointed Political Advisor by PM Shehbaz Sharif During Political Reshuffle

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Rana Sanaullah, President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab, as his adviser on political and public affairs.

President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.

Rana Sanaullah Appointed As Political Advisor

The decision to make Sanaullah as political adviser has come barely days after PM Shehbaz appointed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as deputy prime minister.

According to a statement made on the president’s official X account, formerly Twitter, Sanaullah will be appointed as a federal minister.

“The president approved the appointment of Rana Sanaullah Khan on prime minister’s advice under Article 93-1 of the Constitution,” the statement added.

It is worth noting that the PML-N veteran served as interior minister under the previous government but was defeated in the 2024 general election for the Faisalabad National Assembly seat (NA-100).

Sanaullah’s appointment comes a day after Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was appointed as deputy prime minister in addition to his current position.

It is worth noting that the former interior minister has showed interest in serving in the federal cabinet.

While addressing on Geo News’ “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” on Monday, the lawmaker stated that Nawaz would decide whether to give him a ministry following his visit to China.

The developments follow the politician’s pronouncement last week that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif will regain the leadership of the ruling party after receiving a “clean chit” from the courts and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in various cases filed against him.

“Nawaz Sharif will lead the party again. the PML-N will move forward under his leadership,” the former security czar had stated during a discussion with journalists in Lahore.

Rana Sanaullah’s Federal Minister Role: PML-N’s Reaction to Political Shifts

With the new entrance, Sanaullah has formally entered in the federal cabinet as well as become a part of the PML-N-led coalition government. President Asif Ali Zardari authorized his appointment as an adviser, holding the rank of a federal minister on Tuesday.

Rana Sanaullah

Sanaullah’s nomination was accepted by the president on the advice of the premier under Article 93 (a) of the Constitution.

Rana Sanaullah, the PML-N’s former interior minister during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and nicknamed “Hakeem Sahib,” has been appointed as the PM’s aide after failing to win his seat in the February 8 general elections. Despite his defeat, Sanaullah has recently made headlines for criticizing his own government.

On one occasion, Sanallah stated that providing ministries to Naqvi and Aurangzeb guaranteed the longevity of the present government, adding that their appointment was for the betterment of the government.

Conclusion

Rana Sanaullah’s appointment as political adviser is a strategic move by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to solidify the PML-N’s position amid altering political realities. Despite the electoral setback, Sanaullah’s inclusion demonstrates the party’s commitment to leveraging experienced leadership in managing Pakistan’s political landscape.
