IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, the subject of director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’, has been elevated to Inspector General (IG) from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Maharashtra Police.
Taking to microblogging site X (previously Twitter), the IPS officer expressed his “heartfelt gratitude to everyone” who supported him.
“The journey that began with ASP has now progressed to become IG by order of the Government of India.” “My deepest appreciation to everybody who has supported me on this long journey,” he wrote.

Manoj’s path from financial struggle and scholastic hurdles to becoming a prominent IPS officer has certainly inspired many. Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra produced the film “12th Fail” based on Anurag Pathak’s book, which depicts the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma.
The film is based on Sharma’s life, from being a failed class 12 student to being an IPS officer. The film focuses on both his career and personal lives.
Manoj completed grades 9 and 10 with a third division. He passed class 11, but failed class 12. He failed every subject except Hindi. However, he passed the exam on his second attempt. He later acquired a bachelor’s degree in Hindi and history.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved promotions for IPS officers from the 2003, 2004, and 2005 batches, which led to Mr Sharma’s career advancement.
This significant advancement in his career was revealed following the confirmation of promotions by the Selection Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for IPS officials from the 2003, 2004, and 2005 batches.
Inspector General (IG) Police salaries range from Rs 37,400 to Rs 67,000, with a grade pay of Rs 10,000. However, it should be emphasized that this amount is an approximation and may change at any time.
