The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested NAB Deputy Director on Sunday for reportedly facilitating the nomination of those charged in corruption cases as a swap for money.

According to the information, the NAB Karachi and Islamabad chapters detained its Deputy Director Imran Shaikh in a joint action on charges of accepting payments from the accused, who were apprehended on corruption and misappropriation allegations.

The corruption investigator got a one-day transit remand for Deputy Director Imran Shaikh, who will be transferred to Islamabad on Monday.

The Deputy Director of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been arrested on charges of assisting accused individuals in embezzlement cases in exchange for monetary compensation.

According to reports, Imran Shaikh, the Deputy Director, was seized during a joint operation by the NAB chapters in Karachi and Islamabad. 

He is suspected of taking bribes from people arrested for corruption and fraud. The corruption investigation has given Deputy Director Imran Shaikh a one-day transit arrest and is arranging his transfer to Islamabad for Monday. 

In a separate incident on February 16, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested fifteen individuals suspected, including seven officials from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Passport Immigration, for issuing counterfeit Pakistani passports to Afghan nationals. 

The FIA arrested three Assistant Directors from Passport Immigration and four NADRA officers, as well as four agents and five Afghan nationals.

The FIA’s activities were prompted by allegations from NADRA and the Passport Office.

Conclusion

The arrest of NAB’s Deputy Director on corruption allegations adds another dimension to Pakistan’s ongoing anti-graft campaign. 

Meanwhile, the FIA’s assault on fraudulent passport issuing underscores efforts to tackle fraudulent activity, underlining the country’s commitment to maintaining integrity throughout its institutions.
