Anjali Chakra and Sufi Malik, a US-based same-sex couple hailing from India and Pakistan, have broken off their marriage due to adultery, with both rushing to Instagram to announce the news. 

The pair, who rose to internet stardom five years ago after a viral photoshoot, shared the news with their Instagram followers.

“This could arrive as a shock, but our trip is changing. “We have decided to cancel our wedding and end our marriage due to Sufi’s infidelity,” Chakra said on her Instagram page on Sunday.

Anjali Chakra from India and Sufi Malik from Pakistan, two UK-based YouTubers and a prominent same-sex couple who made news in 2019 for their cross-border love story, surprised their followers when they announced they were calling off their wedding.  

Chakra announced the sad news on social media on March 24, but did not mention the reason. “Sufi & I have been fortunate to spend the last 5+ years us in a loving, wonderful relationship that we have been thrilled to share with you all,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“This may startle you, but our trips are changing. We have chosen to call off our wedding and break our relationship owing to Sufi’s adultery,” the statement said. 

As soon as the article was live, netizens began to speculate about the reasons behind it in Chakra’s comments section. The mystery lasted only a day before Malik revealed the explanation on social media.

According to the article, Sufi cheated on Chakra during their five-year relationship. Sufi confessed that she cheated on her partner a few days before their wedding.

“I made an unforgivable mistake of treachery by cheating on Anjali just a few days before our wedding admitting up to my mistakes and will continue to do so,” stated the text of Malik’s message. Many people came out to support Chakra when the YouTuber provided an update on the situation. 

Sufi and Anjali are a couple located in California. Anjali Chakra works as an event director and producer, whereas Sufi is an artist and teacher.

The couple met in New York in 2018 after following each other’s Tumblr blogs seven years earlier. Since then, the situation has improved for them.

The queer pair is also interfaith: Malik is Muslim-Pakistani, and Chakra is Hindu-Indian.
