Trump Ramps Up Attacks: Less than 24 hours after receiving a partial gagging order in a New York City criminal case regarding his alleged falsification of company records, former President Donald Trump frequently struck out at one person who isn’t covered by the deciding: the judge.
The insults reflect Trump’s practice of striking out on social media against judges and the legal system following an adverse court verdict.
Trump Ramps Up Attacks on Judge’s Judgment
Trump called Judge Juan Merchan “biased and conflicted” on his social media platform, while also criticizing the judge’s daughter for a social media remark that was incorrectly attributed to her, according to a court official.
Merchan ruled Tuesday that Trump must “refrain” from “making or guiding others to make public pronouncements about known or probable witnesses concerning their potential participation” in the case, as well as about individual prosecutor’s offices court staff, and members of their families. The trial is scheduled for April 15.
The injunction made no mention of the judge or his family, which Trump took advantage of on Wednesday.
“This Judge, by issuing a vicious ‘Gag Order,’ is erroneously trying to strip me of my First Amendment right to speak out against the weaponization of law enforcement,” Trump wrote, adding that the judge “is suffering from a severe case of Trump Disorder Syndrome” and should recuse himself from the case.
