Kolkata: A senior source in the state administration stated on Friday that health of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerje is “stable”.

He added that the 69-year-old Banerjee “slept well” despite having received serious injuries to her nose and forehead after a fall inside her Kalighat home in South Kolkata on Thursday night.

Reportedly, CM Banerjee had attended a ceremony at the Ekdalia Evergreen Club in Gariahat. She attented to dedicate a statue of former minister Subrata Mukherjee not long before the tragedy.

At the time of the incident, she was with her sister-in-law Kajari Banerjee, nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and other family members. Her foot slipped as she was moving through her drawing room.

 She stumbled and struck her head on a glass display case. A TMC leader stated, “She suffered a deep cut on her forehead and began to bleed.”

Chief Minister Mamata Banerje received a health report from Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, the director of the state-run SSKM hospital. On March 14, she fell near her residence and cut her forehead and nose severely “due to some push from behind.”

The SSKM director Bandyopadhyay announced to the media on Thursday that Mamata Banerje had been released from the hospital following treatment for her injury. 

Furthermore, he mentioned that the chief minister had a “history of (a) fall within the vicinity of her home due to some push from behind” when she was brought to the hospital.

The hospital director also disclosed that she had three sutures placed on her forehead and one in her nose by medical professionals. 

He said, “Her vitals needed to be stabilized, therefore she was evaluated by HoD neurosurgery, HoD medicine, and our institute’s cardiologist at first.

 The necessary dressing was completed, and three sutures were placed on the forehead and one on the nose. A CT scan, ECG, and other tests were performed. In this context, medical professionals offered their opinions.”

Although they have increased security in and around Banerjee’s home in the Kalighat neighborhood, police have not yet filed a report about the chief minister’s resignation, according to an official.

While citing the CM’s fall “due to some push” as reported by SSKM Hospital, the police officer refrained from commenting on whether they intended to record the CM’s statement or file a suo moto complaint in this respect.
