The UFC Hall of Famer and former heavyweight champion “Mark Coleman” expressed appreciation on his daughter Kenzie’s Facebook page on Friday after suffering a terrifying near-death encounter while rescuing both of his parents from a home fire.
Mark Coleman was an amateur wrestler before his Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) career, earning the NCAA title at Ohio State in 1988 and appearing in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Coleman was initially ventilated and medicated due to smoke that injured his lungs, and initial concerns Tuesday morning were that the incident would be fatal, but the 59-year-old MMA pioneer beat the odds and was conscious, responding, and breathing on his own by Thursday.
Coleman sustained severe inhalation of smoke and was flown to the hospital after a fire broke out at his parents’ home.
Friends of the former UFC heavyweight champion feared the worst for him, but a few hours after being hospitalized, he started breathing on his own and appeared to be improving.
Cameras caught a heartwarming interaction between Mark and his daughters, who were visiting him in the hospital.
Coleman’s second daughter, Morgan, posted on Instagram on Wednesday that her father was “battling for his life” after running back and forth inside the house on Tuesday and carrying both of his parents out of the fire.
Kenzie provided an update on their father’s health on the 59-year-old’s Facebook and Instagram profiles, showing the former UFC champion at heavyweight sitting up in bed and speaking.
Coleman was then diagnosed with pneumonia and is still in a hospital bed three days after narrowly preventing the home fire in which he saved his parents.
